                                                            Year 3's Spring Term Curriculum

Our main topic this term will focus on

                                                         Mountains and Volcanoes.

During our topic work, the children will be learning about the structure of mountains and volcanoes. They will explore these natural wonders from around the world and begin looking at the tectonic plates within our Earth. They will also take the opportunity to delve into Pompeii.

Cross-curricular areas linked to this topic are as follows:

Science – exploring different types of rocks and understanding and identifying their stability and permeability.

    Spring Curriculum overview.

In Maths, we encourage you to focus on social interaction activities like board and dice games to develop your child's number and calculation skills at home. We focus more on multiplication this term, so please encourage your children to play Timetables rockstars.

In science, the children will explore light and dark as well as rocks, which link to their geography topic on mountains and volcanoes.

In English, we encourage you to hear your child read daily. Please read with your children for ten -  fifteen minutes every morning/evening, and please ensure you record this in their reading records.

We will cover a few topics in English this term, focusing on the purpose to entertain and persuade.

Talk! Discuss the day and future plans. Please discuss illustrations and the plot and encourage your child to express an opinion and to give reasons for it, as this will help them to voice their ideas confidently and benefit them when they need to their own stories persuasively.
