Nash Mills is its own admitting authority and, as such, manages the admissions process for pupils coming into the school with the support of Hertfordshire County Council. Any queries around this or if you would like to arrange a visit to the school, please contact the school office, who will do their best to help.
Our Admissions policy is focused on our vision and purpose; being a locally-focused family school, following the admission of pupils who are looked after by the local authority, we initially prioritise those who have siblings in school before those who attend church and live locally. Following this, pupils are admitted based on how far they live from our school.
There are three different stages of admission:
- Nursery Admissions (for a September start for children who are three)
- Reception Admissions (for a September start for children who are four)
- In Year Admissions (for entry at all other times)
To find out more about each stage of admission, please click the appropriate link on the right of this page.
When making an application for your child to join our school, if you are not successful you will be provided with the option to appeal the decision. This is a way to challenge the process only if you do not feel that the policy has been applied correctly. The appeals process is not for those who are disappointed that they did not get a place once the policy had been applied and we would ask these parents to add their children to our continuing interest list.
We would ask that you think very carefully before lodging an appeal to ensure that you feel that the policy has not been used correctly. We would be more than happy to speak to you about this and would encourage you to call us to discuss further. In the vast majority of cases, we are able to explain why a place was not offered.
Each time an appeal is lodged by a parent, we have to pay an administration fee to the local authority which is over £250 per appeal. This takes funding from our curriculum and wider budget which we would like to avoid if possible.
For information on appeals to the school please see https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/services/schools-and-education/school-admissions/school-appeals/school-appeals.aspx
Our Admissions Policies are in line with Hertfordshire County Council in terms of the admission of pupils with SEND. With regard to the SEN and Disability Regulations (2014), the school works to ensure that no child is unfavourably treated due to a disability. Information describing how we support pupils with SEND can be found within our SEND Information Report.
