Our School

Welcome to our school website!  We hope that these pages will provide you with a range of information about Nash Mills and how we are dedicated to providing the best start in life for all of our pupils.

Being positioned at the heart of the local community allows us to offer strong support to families and young people, creating a nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

As a Church of England Primary School, we provide our community with opportunities to reflect upon and explore the world around them whilst learning about core Christian values and spirituality.

We are a family, defined by our core Christian values: Wisdom, Hope, Dignity, Forgiveness and Community. Every member of our school is supported in love to flourish as unique human beings, made in God’s image.  Together, we navigate life’s journey in the safety of love and with compassion for others.

This is underpinned by the story of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10, 25:37)

Our school was founded by the paper industrialist John Dickinson in 1847 for the provision of education for local families and recognising every child, family, member of staff and governor as part of our extended family has continued since.

Our curriculum will encourage questioning, the exploration of ideas and navigation of challenges to help prepare our children for the future. This is structured into a model with a progression of skills starting with the children’s own experiences and developing to wider national and global aspects, with creativity that encourages self-expression and the development of their talents.

But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. Luke 10: 25-37

Our Christian Vision

We are a family.  As a Church of England school, we are proud to have close links to our local church community and the Diocese of St Albans.  In practice, our special Christian Distinctiveness means that we are able to support all of our pupils to flourish in a supportive and respectful community.

Some of our families are of Christian faith, however many are not.  We see this as incredibly valuable; through sharing our different views, beliefs and opinions we are able to truly come together as a community.  Pupils are supported to reflect upon their feelings and are supported to best demonstrate our school’s vision and values.

  • Our Golden Threads

Throughout our curriculum we run Golden Threads; values which underpin everything we do:

    • Wisdom and Knowledge
    • Hope and Aspiration
    • Dignity, Forgiveness and Respect
    • Community and Family
  • Our Silver Threads

Woven throughout these are skills that we see as key for our learners to be confident in.  These form our Silver Threads:

    • Spirituality
    • Identity
    • Communication
    • Cultural Capital

Our Curriculum

At Nash Mills CofE Primary School, we are committed to high-quality teaching which raises the standards of learning and resulting achievement for all children.  Through clear expectations and common working practices, we can ensure that our curriculum is delivered in the way that we intend for each subject.  The curriculum content taught at Nash Mills is sequential and builds on prior learning. We incorporate opportunities for both skills and knowledge-based learning to happen, which allows our children to gradually develop a deeper understanding of the skills and processes of all subjects.

Within each subject area, we have a clearly defined syllabus, detailing the knowledge that pupils will learn as they move through the school.  This has been carefully mapped to ensure that the children revisit and reconnect with key concepts to help them know more and remember more as they move through the school.  More information on each area of our school curriculum can be found in the 'Learning' pages of our website.
