Celebration

Celebrations

We see it as vitally important that we help the children to experience and recognise key religious festivals and celebrations throughout the year.  Within the Christian faith and in churches, colours are used to show key times of the year.  Each of our classrooms has these to display, helping the children to recognise when it is time for a particular observance.

Easter

 An example of our work could be Easter, where the whole school spent time using the Understanding Christianity to learn about its themes.  Collective Worship was also focused on this in the weeks beforehand.  On the penultimate day of term, the children all took part in a range of activities to explore the Easter story in more depth;

 - Mrs Jakeman ran an activity outside around celebration and how Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

 - Reverend Richard came to talk to the children about communion and its links to The Last Supper on Maundy Thursday.

- The children all completed art work around Good Friday.

 - Finally, the children thought about Easter Sunday and it being a chance to look forward at the good things that are to come.  They designed a small bag in this theme and put all of their work into it ready to take home.
